Announcing the fourth annual Ten, Tiny, Talks Artist in Residency and Film Festival! Screening films from Black and Indigenous trans, Two Spirit and queer filmmakers and artists. For three days in June (June 14th- 16th) at the Clinton Street Theater in beautiful Portland, Oregon, genres spanning art as protest, music videos, film shorts, full-length, documentaries, one acts and visual presentations bordering on the experimental will fill the screen as part of the celebration.

Now is your chance to view established and emerging global creatives who are influencing film, theater and visual arts while enjoying the top-notch Pacific Northwest summers Oregon is known for in the heart of the urban Willamette Valley. What’s even more thrilling is the film festival will run for three days and nights, presenting local performance artists, installations, live bands and Q & A’s from notable change makers. One of the core components of Ten, Tiny, Talks is its focus on contributing to and broadening the archive of our everyday experiences as trans people with queer relationships. Each artist in the program works with a mentor and the Artistic Director to refine the creative project an artist has in mind. A technical and creative team is put together so that the artist can focus on conceptualizing and producing their vision. Resident artists also work with a photographer and videographer in order to have their work documented and public facing in some way. This is also for artists own use as they continue their creative path but to also add to the global cannon of Black, Native creative representation. All completed documentation will be shown in the following year’s Ten, Tiny, Talks Festival.

What are we looking for?

In 2024 Ten, Tiny, Talks is looking for installations, films, experimental work, plays and visual arts projects of all varieties and calibers to be included in this year’s season. Are you a model, fashion designer, mixed-media artist, burgeoning playwright, circus artist, painter, drag artist, time based art-maker, a dancer? Then we want to hear from you!

Submissions close March 31st, 2024 at Midnight Pacific Standard Time. You will be notified when a submission is received and all applicants will be notified whether they’ve moved forward into the residency or not by the submission deadline. The whole tea on Ten, Tiny, Talks.

Ten, Tiny, Talks historically has hosted TEN projects annually. Going forward we have reduced this number to: Five. This is partially due to funding constraints and human capacity but also so that we can as a team be more focused on the artists in the residency and at the same time increase our support of collaborators, sponsors and established guest artists that help make this festival and experience a success every year.

Ten, Tiny, Talks furthers the revolutionary act and ceremony of trans and queer self-love through film, performance art and exhibits intended to build Black and Indigenous trans and queer communities while increasing the number of thriving creatives in the trans and queer experience. Essentially, we’re about removing barriers for our artists and community. Ensuring the existence of our own creative and financial economy.

Ten, Tiny, Talks supports trans and queer people sharing their stories, heritage and trans/queercestry. Resident Artists are expected to complete at least one artistic project that is public facing during the Ten, Tiny, Talks season to be presented through the Ten, Tiny, Talks program. Work filmed may be shown as part of the Ten, Tiny, Talks film festival. There is no fee to apply to Ten, Tiny Talks or to submit work for consideration to T & A Grand Theater. Artists retain all their creative ownership rights.

Submissions run January 1st -March 31st 2024.

The Fine Print (Mostly)

Resident artists must be able to, by their own means, travel to, reside in or present their work in the Portland, Oregon area. Resident artists will be encouraged to participate in meet and greets and mixers with other artists in the Pacific Northwest (and beyond) to build a strong network of mentorship, opportunity and success. Proposals must show the project is near or at its final stages of conceptualization, include a thoughtful, easy to understand budget and a project plan or outline. Timelines for the projects, the cost of materials, goal/inspiration for the creative work and any other ideas the artist has to bring to the table will be considered.

An honorarium of $1200 is given to artists who complete their residency at T & A Grand Theater and Media and Ten, Tiny, Talks.
